adieu paris

C'est vrai. Ne plus de Paris. I gave my notice at noon today. I set an alarm to make myself do it, because it made me so nervous. You'd think I was quitting my job or something.

...wait...

Well, I seem to be going to stay on at the Gallery rather longer than expected because of the New Deal, whatever it's going to be, under the new director.

A new era begins. [livejournal.com profile] inlandsea and I are planning to build a palace together. What do you get if you combine a sea and a fracture? A river? A sinkhole? Someone give me a pleasantly homey geographical feature here. I suppose if the fracture is radiant you might get a hot springs?

Perhaps we'll leave that topic for now.

I'm going to miss Paris. The incredible southern light. The high ceilings. The clawfoot tub. The huge windows. Oh, Dog, what am I doing?

The silverfish. The giant splinters in the floor. The oven with only one working element. The hole in the cupboard leading to the airshaft leading to the Rat Kingdom. The lack of fan in the bathroom. The Stompy People. The shower stall that regularly collapses. The alarming wiring and erratic heating. The screaming thumping pipes and screaming thumping sex upstairs. The regular car accidents in front of the building.

It's no good. It all just seems like delightful eccentricity now. I love this apartment. But it's much more than I can afford, and they're raising the rent in May. Time to go. Oh. Paris. Goodbye.

It's going to be exciting. A whole new deal. A new place to invent. An adventure. It's a good, wise choice. It gives me a lot more flexibility.

But what will I do with the lovely clock of the Paris dancer that you bought me in Nanaimo? The sign that conveniently says "Paris" that my mum gave me? The map of the city of lights that we never did follow around town? Oh what about the tour, what about Mock Posh?

I should start cleaning up. I want the place nice. The landlord plans to start showing the apartment on Friday(!) Yep. I should be doing that. Rather than flipping between posts checking to see if there are more comments. I should at least take down the prints of the ithyphallic satyrs.

Maybe I'll check just once more.

But I let LJ tell me when there's new comments on my blog - it emails them to me. For some reason it's set to do that for me by default.

I'm so sorry the Paris era is coming to an end. It was a good era. I guess I'll throw out the key I kept eh? At least the job continues - this is a good thing.

Well, keep the key if you want. Could be handy.

It's a lovely place. Looks even better now that I've tidied it up to be shown. Taken down all the pornography, you know. I've been very happy there. But I think... something else now. Even a loss is a change. And really I stayed too long.

Or is that Prague? Rats, I never know. Anyway, my point (and I do have one) is that perhaps a little bit of Paris can live on in our shared venture? I like the Paris Clock, and sign, and .... unless you /want/ a total break from it all? After all, doesn't Paris live in the hearts of all writers?

okay, blame that last bit on the cold medicine. funnily enough, I almost sent you a book called "You can't see Paris from here" (or something like that - it's about living in a small French village) until I realized that is was unfair to make you come into the library just for a title I found amusing. Especially at a time when you might not find it amusing.
