portrait of the artist as a young van

So my new hobby is making ugly things out of wire.
I found a skein of beautiful russet wire that I salvaged from a bad relationship-- seven years ago now.
(Do I still quantify my relationships by the objects lost and gained? A little. He still has the Sega system, but I got that hat I always liked... she took my out-of-print 60's scifi pornography, but I got the lamp... there are so many objects now that they can flow in and out of your life almost endlessly.)
So I'm taking this wire, and some wildly overpriced Art Wire I got at the Art Materials For the Mediocre tm store, and I'm making a green, purple, and russet wire ship. I've already made a dream machine for the light fixture. It is not a wire replica of the van from Scooby-Doo. It is supposed to look like a hot-air balloon, but I got bored. Also, none of the wire is really strong enough to hold a shape with the kind of tension required for versimilitude.
I could say that these are melted, subverted objects, thwarting the very notion of manufacture, upsetting notions of solidity and mass much the way those famous melting clocks did... but I would be full of crap.
And sound like a critic.
