In the spirit of [livejournal.com profile] james_nicoll's excellent self-injury stories, I have managed to give myself a papercut. On my eyelid. Behind my glasses. And when I leant over to write down that it had happened, I yanked my palm pilot onto the floor and barked my shin on the desk.

I know it's derivative, but I feel proud to be following along in my small way.

Wow, and I thought I had serious bad luck with self-inflicted injuries/fluke accidents.

Like the time I worked in the paleo lab at UVic. It involved (thankfully) dilute acid solution in a bucket, into which I had extended a hose to finish filling it. The water ran a might bit too fast, and out launched a single drop from the acidic sludge in the bottom of the bucket, arcing gracefully through the air, sailing a good two or three feet before landing square in my left eye.

And it's true... with enough training, you really DO learn how to find the emergency eyewash station with your eyes closed...

And FYI, I believe I have had no fewer than two eyelid papercuts, if it makes you feel any better.

I"m not sure 'better' is the word. But 'less alone', certainly.

you and I should drink Smithwicks together with some stiff paper. Between the two of us, we'd be blind, but it would be a damn clean wound. ;)
